How much does a custom driveway gate cost?

It depends on size, design complexity, automation, and site conditions — a simple manual pipe gate and a fully automated custom entrance with stone columns are very different projects. That's why every project starts with a free estimate and a CAD design, so you know exactly what you're getting before committing. If budget is the driver, tell us — we're happy to design toward a number.

Is prefab fencing really that much cheaper than custom?

Usually, yes. Prefabricated ornamental panels are made in volume, so you get the wrought-iron look for a fraction of custom fabrication cost. We recommend prefab for long runs and custom for the pieces people see up close, like entrance gates. We'll price both options so you can decide.

Do you install gate openers on existing gates?

Yes. We automate existing gates whenever they're structurally sound, and we'll tell you honestly if yours isn't. We also add access control — keypads, remotes, RFID, telephone entry — to gates we didn't build.

What about power at a remote entrance?

No power, no problem. Solar-powered operators are a proven option for off-grid ranch and acreage entrances, and several of our installs run on solar year-round.

Can you install in winter?

Black Hills winters are real, but they don't shut us down. Ground conditions can affect concrete and excavation scheduling, so winter projects sometimes phase fabrication first and installation when conditions allow. Fabrication happens indoors all year.

Do I need a permit for a gate or fence?

It depends on where you are — Rapid City, Pennington County, and surrounding jurisdictions each have their own rules on fence height and setbacks. We'll flag what applies to your project during the estimate.

How long does a project take?

Prefab fence and standard cattle guard installs are typically quick once scheduled. Custom gates take longer because of design and fabrication time. You'll get a realistic timeline with your quote, and we keep you posted — fast communication is something our reviews mention for a reason.

Will a cattle guard hold up to heavy trucks?

We build and supply cattle guards with load capacity matched to your traffic. Tell us what crosses it — pickups, stock trailers, loaded feed trucks — and we'll spec rails and supports accordingly.

Do you repair gates you didn't build?

Absolutely. We service and repair gates and operators from all major brands, including storm damage, opener issues, and alignment problems.

Where do you work?

We're based in Rapid City and cover roughly 100 miles in every direction — west through the Black Hills into Wyoming (Newcastle, Sundance, Upton), east to Wall, Philip, and Kadoka, and everything between Belle Fourche and Edgemont. For the right project, we travel farther — just ask.
